Welcome back to work/school day! Hope you all had a great 4 day weekend!
Well usually today’s blog would consist of mainly my baking class stories, but not this time!
Last night, wasn’t very tired but I had a huge headache and a stuffy nose, so to avoid getting sicker, I took a benadryl before going to bed. Worst idea ever. I woke up this morning like a zombie with a headache still! However, I no longer have a stuffy nose so I guess it did something right!
Of course this morning I had my lovely hospitality accounting class.. Normally I would say I will let you all imagine how that went. Not today! I walk in maybe about 8:50 am, the first one to class. Sit down and start talking to my teacher about my weekend and what day trips and other trips he recommends so I can plan for when Nikki comes! Might I add in here, he tried to tell me to go to London over Dublin because London is so much better! Too bad he’s wrong! I told him I am and HAVE to go to Dublin…… I’m Irish of course- have to represent the Murphys and mention how I know a bunch of Hogans while I’m there too! He was like well okay then but he still thinks London is better…… but I couldn’t agree. He mentioned a few other good places I need to look into as well.
It becomes about 9:07 and he looks at me like where is everyone……. Needless to say by this time I am thinking OMG I am going to be the only one out of the 6 people we have in the class that showed up! Well I was right.. I was the only one in class today. Dedicated student? Maybe. More like I don’t like skipping classes- especially here, they lower your grade! It’s rough but luckily for me I don’t skip classes J! I guess I didn’t get the memo that today was skip class day! Well considering I was the only one, my luck he doesn’t let me go home of course.. so I sat there and had a one on one accounting lesson! How fun considering I just love accounting! All I can say is if I didn’t have the pre-req of accounting before coming into this class……… I’d have an F. (for fantastic J) HAHA….not! But anyways.. he finally looked at me and was like well that is it for today and then e-mailed the other few and basically said where are you. A few of them have already skipped 2 classes so it really hurts their grade! So maybe by the end of this I will be the only one if all of them drop the class. AHHHHHHHHH………… I hope not! But he did say there will be a big ? on the mid-term that none of them will know because he won’t re-teach today’s lesson next week. Hopefully I get that question right!!!! HAHA! I can only hope!
So then I went home and got ready to go work out. I totally had in my mind that I would re-do Spartacus like I did on Thursday……….but I am still sore so I stuck with the cardio! Haha! Thanks to my brother for teaching me that Spartacus workout. My body loves it!
After that, I went to the market and got more FRESH spinach and ricotta ravioli J my favorite!! It is so good! And then I got more of my obsession- banana chips and now I have a very expensive obsession of dried kiwi! (Seigs- you like kiwi, you gotta try this stuff! It is DELICIOUS!)
Then I met up with Haleigh and Briana to get our train tickets for nightmare weekend ahead! We are so ready to go with big plans for the weekend! Gotta get my fleamarket mindset back and be ready to bargain for the gondola rides J or I might just date one of the guys who guide the rides! HAHA
Then BAKING CLASS! WOOHOO! Today was the big day! Croissants, Danish, and Brioche making! I looked at Valerie (lab partner) and was like we have to call croissants! (Stacey—I miss the days where we looked into the workbook and got to class early to call what we wanted to make L) I have been anxiously waiting to make those! So that is what we got to make while the others prepped the danish and brioche. All I can say is if these croissants turn out anything like the croissants Julie and I got to try at the French Pastry Institute………I’m going to be VERY excited! Those things were beyond delicious in Chicago. They are such a process to make though. And where is my good friend Paula Deen when I need her. First you make the dough, which today was the first time I got to use a commercial mixer! I miss my kitchen-aid! But then you roll out the dough and then put a whole SLAB of butter on top and then fold the dough over! And another few processes after that to incorporate the butter and then the same thing went for making the danish! It was so cool though and I cannot wait for next week because that is when we get to bake both the danish and croissants because they have to rise/proof/etc. But we did get to make the brioche today! We made fried Italian donuts and then baked brioche classic rolls with sugar on top, a brioche knot with almonds on top, and then a roll with pastry cream on top! All of them were good and def. another week of my baking class goods being my dinner and another week of feeling disgusting! Haha! Def. going to be a good workout tomorrow! The donuts were so good, but I haven’t had a donut in a long time! Some people filled theirs with pastry cream, but I didn’t opt for that! Gross! I covered mine in sugar! It was definitely another good week in class and next week should be even better! I really am loving that class lately! Then also to add, in the downtime we had waiting for things, def. had to tell the 2 girls in my class all about my sandwich I am so in love with because the class next to us was making focacia bread—so obviously that reminded me of my sandwich! That place is going to get just as much business as I made the fleamarket from bringing so many people to it and telling so many people about it! I wish I could make a profit from it! HAHA!
Then I came home and ate some protein and called it my dinner. Now I feel gross from all that bread consumption but it was too good to pass up!
Now I get to study for my first quiz tomorrow in my Italian class. It’s going to be rough. I feel like I am in high school Spanish all over again! So pray for me that I do good J thanks!
Well.. hope you all are having a good day so far and hopefully having warmer weather than we are having here!
I am excited because we asked my baking teacher tonight where the best canoli place is and I am going to try and find it. Of course Sicily has the best and when I go-- I will eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! I am so excited for that trip but it seems so far away! L
Well for now, Ciao! Miss ya’ll!
When anyone wins the lottery, let me know when you’re coming to visit J!
